When Cindy and I first began dating many, many years ago, her mom and dad had some pretty strict rules. One of those rules was that we could only double date or we had to have a chaperone. So needless to say, her younger sister, Susie, was a regular part of our early dating experience.
After a while, the requirements were relaxed and the two of us were allowed to date without Susie, finally!
Fast forward a few years and now we are married. Fast forward again another four years and we are welcoming our firstborn son Josh. Once again we are three.
We had a sweet candy apple red Camaro, when Josh arrived on the scene. Great car, for a single guy, or a young and in love couple—But not very practical for a family of three. So you guessed it—The Camaro had to go.
Then we were blessed two-and-a-half years later with our second son, Jonathan. We could still fit in a “regular” car and sit together somewhat comfortably at a restaurant. Then two more years and we welcomed Jenna, followed two years later with Julia. As the Bible says, our quiver was full, and so was our minivan!
Then in the blink of an eye it happened. Jonathan met Laci, and they got married. A few years later Jenna met Billy and they got married. Then just seven months later Julia and Matthew got married.
Now we were back to three.
It’s funny how you family can grow and shrink at the same time.
For the past three-and-a-half years it’s been the three of us again.
Most people don’t really understand that now nearly everywhere we go and everything we do, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, we do as a threesome.
Always thinking, always planning, always providing care—That’s our life these days.
A beautiful, busy, always bustling, family of three. We love it and couldn’t imagine it any other way.
Three’s a crowd and we are blessed!
